Well, it would appear that we can almost close the book on the horrible turn of events from the 2005 United States Grand Prix. The ticket holders are getting a refund, twenty thousands fans will get a free ticket next year, and the teams have now been cleared of the guilty verdict by the FIA senate. So, why am I writing an editorial now? Well, I'm hoping that although F1 is a monstrous money-maker, there is more to it than the money. Fans took their vacations, spent money on travel, and lost valuable time.  While I'm not suggesting that anyone can put a number on the loss or that anyone needs to be repaid for travel expenses, it would be nice to hear something of an apology for what happened at the USGP.  But, of course, actions speak louder than words.

I certainly hope that there will be a USGP next year, and I also hope they return to Indianapolis.  I would expect the teams and Formula 1 to do something special for the fans, especially those that had to go through the agony of this years USGP.  I don't know whether it would be something as small as a USGP/F1 poster, or maybe a lottery for a few lucky winners to win autographed hats and t-shirts (or even wing endplates).

Although the teams have now been cleared of the guilty charges, they are the ones that ultimately have to carry the sport on their shoulders.  If someone else gives the sport a black eye, the teams are the ones that pay.  So in the interest of fan satisfaction and the teams' bottom line...  Please, don't point fingers - just apologize that it happened and try to make up for it however you can.

Hope to see you at the '06 USGP
